How to Play Crazy Eights

Crazy Eights is a shedding game for 2, 3, or 4 players. Match the discard by suit or rank, or play an Eight and name the next suit. Empty your hand to score 0, or win a blocked hand with the lowest cards left. The lowest score wins.

Read the How to Play Crazy Eights guide. For another game about emptying your hand, see How to Play Thirteen.

How you win

Empty your hand and you score 0. Each other player adds the value of the cards left in their hand. The lowest total wins. On Solitaire Arcade that one hand is the whole game.

Matching suit or rank

Play a card that matches the top discard by suit or by rank. You may also play two or more cards of the same rank in one turn when the first of them is a legal play. The last card you play is what the next player must follow.

What eights do

An Eight can be played on any card. If it is not your last card, you name the suit the next player must follow, and they answer with that suit or another Eight. Queens, aces, and twos are ordinary cards here. Crazy Eights Special Cards Explained covers what each rank actually does.

Drawing

You may draw even when you already hold a legal card. Each Draw takes one card into your hand, and it is not played for you. Play a legal card when you want to, or draw again. As soon as the stock runs empty, the cards under the top discard are shuffled into a new stock (the top card stays). If nothing is left to recycle and you still need a card, the turn passes.

Crazy Eights Strategy: How to Win More Games

Win more Crazy Eights hands by choosing when to play an Eight, ordering same-rank dumps, and drawing when the legal card is the wrong one to lose.

Crazy Eights Cards: What Eights, Queens, and Twos Do

On Solitaire Arcade the Eight names the next suit. Same-rank dumps set the pile, and queens, aces, and twos only match.

Crazy Eights vs Uno: What's the Difference?

Crazy Eights and Uno both match a pile and shed cards. The deck, the action cards, the draw, and a single lowest-score hand are where they split.
