How to use this calculator

Scoring
This calculator uses Solitaire Arcade's Gin scoring. To use your own figures, select Customise scoring above.
Player names
Enter both names so you know which score is which. Once the names and the scoring are set, you are ready to play. If you are still uncertain, you can Play Gin Rummy and get some practice in before you take on your family and friends.
Result
In Score this hand, select Gin, Knock, or Draw, then select who went gin or who knocked. Enter the deadwood, and you are ready to calculate the score. A draw needs no deadwood.
Save hand
When you agree on the hand, select Save hand and the calculator does all the work for you, and the score will appear in the Score card section.
Undo and reset
If you make a mistake, select Undo last hand. This will allow you to make any correction you need. Once you are done, select Save hand again to keep playing. To play another match, select Reset match. Be careful, as this clears the Score card and cannot be undone.

How the scoring works

The figures in this calculator follow Solitaire Arcade's scoring, you can read more in the How to play Gin Rummy guide.

When a player goes gin, layoffs are not allowed. The hand scores the opponent's full deadwood plus 25. A knock uses both totals after layoffs. The lower knocker total scores the difference. An equal or higher knocker total is an undercut. The opponent scores the difference plus 10. In the Solitaire Arcade game you can knock only with 10 deadwood or less. This calculator simply scores whatever deadwood you type in.

A race to 100 is won on the hand points. At the end, each player gets a box of 20 for every hand they won, and the winner gets a game bonus of 100, or 200 if the other player is still on 0. One hand scores that hand and stops. No boxes, and no game bonus.

Feel free to set your own figures. Just select Customise scoring above to choose your preferred values. Enjoy your game, and best of luck!
